Private Investigators or Private Detectives are in abundance within your local area and their services offered are quite immense and diverse and may include process serving papers for insurance companies, complex people tracing for debt recovery or other financial matters or providing video / audio evidence for or against a person/s for court proceedings to peace of mind investigations. The range of skills and experience acquired which is gathered over many years is vast however, most of the equipment private investigators will use to accompany their investigations are supplied by 'spy shops'.
It is important when gathering any kind of evidence which is presented to the client that solid proof is provided, the word of what a private investigator tells you will not cut the mustard in today's society, people want to actually see video / audio or written proof for themselves.
When you hire equipment or the services of a private investigator it is very difficult to know that you have given your confidential information to the right company and that any investigation is carried out with the utmost professionalism. This is because at present there is no regulated body within the PI industry that controls who can or cannot call themselves a private investigator / detective. You could be paying for the services of an amateur setup with a professional looking website and not just paying top whack money but also get a poor result. Choosing the right investigation company is absolutely essential.
Hiring spy / surveillance equipment
Most people will not be aware a 'spy shop' exists or where they are located or that very good equipment can be purchased online for next day delivery. Most people may think such equipment requires a masters degree to use when in actual fact is very easy to use. Most people will hire the services of a private investigator who in turn will purchase and use the equipment from a spy shop to provide evidence back to the client. Of course, if money is no object then this would be the preferred choice as everything is taken out of your hands - you pay an investigator and they provide the result.
The downside is that you may probably be able to buy the equipment outright for use over and over again for the price you will be charged on rental - and that the investigator can now start to build his equipment empire for future investigatory use for other clients. Please be aware that there are certain laws when using spy equipment however, the extent of how it can be used will yield you great results for example in peace of mind situations.
So, now you are aware such equipment can be purchased outright at a fraction of the cost you would pay just for hiring over a short period, the next step is to ensure you are going to purchase the correct equipment for the job and that the retailer you are buying from is a legitimate seller. The only real way we can assure customers is to read the website thoroughly and call for a chat either over the telephone or in person. We have a working office environment and welcome any customer where we can also demo equipment but also ensure the equipment you buy will do what you need.

Currently, there is no official regulated body to recognise the Private Investigation industry. Simply put, anybody with little or no experience within this skilled industry can create a website and advertise private investigator services for a premium rate when actually delivering sometimes crippling poor results due to lack of field experience and / or the correct equipment.
Some many years back in 2004 / 2005 the PI sector attempted to regulate the industry however, through feedback by close associates there is still no firm regulation in place except for newly released training modules leading to BTEC level 3 certification which is accredited by Edexcel. Those wishing to enter the PI industry can (at their own expense) attend professional surveillance training schools for progressive certification although this is not a requirement.
Increasingly, modern PI's prefer to be known as 'professional investigators' or Licensed Private Investigators (LPI's) rather than 'private investigators' or 'private detectives'. This is a response to the image that is sometimes attributed to the profession and an effort to establish and demonstrate the industry to be a proper and respectable profession.
When choosing a Private Investigator for personal or business matters it pays dividends to source a company who are well established with a proven track record. Such companies do have to abide by the governing laws including Data Protection and Privacy laws plus an abundance of other laws which may hinder obtaining an otherwise positive result for the client.
