Summer Spy Gadgets

Now that the grey January days are at an end, many people are looking forward to planning their Summer holiday and having a bit of fun in the sun. Whether you are going to be enjoying a romantic getaway for two, or a family holiday with plenty going on, don’t underestimate the need for a few spy gadgets to take away with you to keep you safe.

Cash:  You probably do the basics every year before you jet off and make sure that your home is secure, any pets and sorted out, and you have packed for every eventuality.  But, have you got your currency all sorted?  You should consider using traveller’s cheques abroad as, unlike cash, they can usually be replaced if they are lost or stolen.  It’s a good idea to use a money belt as this keeps your currency as close to you as possible – thereby deterring thieves but being convenient for you to access whenever you need to.

Insurance: This goes without saying.  Make sure your policies are up-to-date and take a copy of the contact details for your insurance company in your hand luggage.  Programme any helpline numbers into your mobile too.

Luggage:  Don’t forget to take a spare padlock with you in your hand luggage to use in case the lock on your suitcase gets broken.  It will also be useful to secure a cupboard in your holiday accommodation and can even be used on your handbag or daily carry bag to deter pickpockets while you are out seeing the sights.

Local knowledge:  Before you even set off you should know what (if any) vaccinations are needed and whether or not there are any travel warnings for your destination.

Spy Equipment And The Sexual Harrassment Case

Last week, a former spy told an employment tribunal how she was blacklisted by the security agency she used to work for after being subject to alleged sexual advances by her boss.

Her claim for sexual harassment and unfair dismissal against the unnamed agency included allegations that her married intelligence boss sent flirty text messages and touched her inappropriately during a nine-month period. She said she initially put this behaviour down to “being friendly”, but later changed her mind when he became more direct.

The woman, who is named only as ‘Miss D’, told the tribunal how her security clearance was downgraded after she sought treatment for depression as a result of alleged harassment. She stated: “I was blacklisted because I had been on a psych ward meaning I could never do restricted posts, sensitive posts again. No details have been revealed of Miss D’s position within the intelligence agency and whether or not she had access to sensitive spy equipment or information.

Cross-examiners suggested that Miss D had “manufactured” the allegations in a bid to move detract from her poor work performance, and also that she encouraged her boss to behave in the ways he did.

The case continues.
