Gloucestershire Park Set To Benefit From New Surveillance Equipment
Locals who use Druids Oak park in Quedgeley, Gloucestershire, recently breathed a sigh of relief when council officials confirmed that they will spend £8,000 on new CCTV surveillance equipment.
The park has recently been subjected to several bouts of anti social behaviour, and it is hoped that the cost of the new CCTV equipment will be justified through a huge reduction in repair costs.
The play area is a magnet for local youths, and whilst the majority enjoy the park in a responsible manner, there is a handful who choose to cause havoc. It is thought that those responsible for vandalism in the park are local youths rather than young children using the play equipment, and Quedgeley Parish Council have now come to the end of their tether.
This isn’t the first time that surveillance equipment has been installed in Druids Oak park, although the expensive new equipment is considerably more hi-tech and will capture clearer images of offenders.
Local councillor Andy Lewis welcomed the installation of the new equipment and said:
“It’s one of those ongoing problems.
“It’s been going on for years. For years police have been running initiatives with youths hanging around in the park.
“It has reared its ugly head again.
“If anything can be done to appease the residents around there and make the problem stop or move on, then that’s a good idea.”
The CCTV equipment is set to be installed in the coming weeks.
